Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2018

From October 18th until January 27th (2019), you can see some spectacular photos on display in the National Portrait Gallery in London. They are part of the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2018, a leading international competition celebrating the best of portrait photography from around the world.

The pictures on display are all taking part in the competition, and here you can see pictures made by professional photographers, but also photos made by amateurs. Some are prepared a long time beforehand, while other pictures are more impulsive pictures made to catch the moment.

More than 75 pictures will be on display, and among the pictures, you can find the winner picture which was awarded 15,000 GBP. Some of the pictures have never been displayed publicly before, while other pictures have been seen here and there. Not only can you see the pictures, but you can also get to know the stories behind the works.

Exhibition on Picasso portraits

Would you like to get to know more about Picasso? Maybe you have seen his paintings, but have you seen the portraits painted by him? Visit the National Portrait Gallery in London to learn more.

Between October 6th 2016 and February 5th 2017 there will be a fantastic exhibition on display in the National Portrait Gallery in London. On this exhibition you can see more than eighty works of Pablo Picasso showing his skills as a portrait painter. What makes his paintings so interesting is that they often differ a lot, and you will see his skills used in different ways in the different paintings.

Some of the works to be displayed in this exhibition are famous all around the world, while some of the works on display will be shown in the UK for the very first time. The exhibition is a cooperation between the National Portrait Gallery in London and the Picasso Museum in Barcelona.

Sargent: Portraits of Artists and Friends – Exhibition

Sargant - National Portrait GalleryThe exhibition Sargent: Portraits of Artists and Friends will be shown at the National Portrait Gallery from February 2015. John Singer Sargent was an American painter who was considered the best portrait painter of his generation.

He was born in 1856 and he died in 1925 in the age of 69. The museum will show some of the best works of the painter and visitors will have the chance to have a closer look and discover more on his art work. Sargent is one of the most outstanding American painters in the history and from the next year in London the museum will show a wide range of various portraits from the painter. Sargent was closely connected to several of the leading artists, painters, actors and musicians of the time and these connections made him possible to create the portraits more intimate than the formal portraits.

The exhibition will show a great selection of paintings of the artist, at the exhibition visitors can explore more than 70 portraits of Sargent’s time in London, Boston and Paris as well. The exhibition Sargent: Portraits of Artists and Friends will take place at the National Portrait Gallery in London. The exhibition will be held from 12th February to 25th May in 2015. The entrance fee for the exhibition is for £14.50. The museum is open from Saturday to Wednesday from 10 in the morning until 6 in the evening and on Thursdays and Fridays it us open from 10 in the morning to 9 in the evening.

Wellington: Triumphs, Politics and Passion – Exhibition

Wellington in NPGThe exhibition will be displayed at the National Portrait Gallery in London. This is the first exhibition dedicated only to the Duke of Wellington which can be seen next year in London.

Arthur Wellesley was the first Duke of Wellington who was born in 1769 and died in 1852. Wellesley was a British soldier and he was one of the most important figures of the 19th century in Britain. At the time Arthur Wellesley was one of the leading military and political leaders and he is most famous for the victory over Napoleon at the battle of Waterloo. The exhibition will present the life and illustrate the most important events of the 1st Duke of Wellington and visitors will have the chance to discover more on the important role he had in the 19th century. At the exhibition there will be multiple paintings and portraits of Wellesley.

Approximately 59 paintings will be on display at the museum and some of them will be shown the first time to the audience. The pictures are from different painters including Goya, Thomas Lawrence, Antoine Claudet and so on. The exhibition Wellington: Triumphs, Politics and Passion will be held at the National Portrait Gallery in London. The exhibition will be shown from 12th March to 7th June in 2015.

William Morris exhibition

William Morris was an English textile designer, poet and novelist, he was a real Victorian artist, writer and visionary thinker. He was born in 1834 and he died in 1896. Morris had a major role to the revival of the traditional British textile arts and its production as well.
Anarchy and Beauty
The Anarchy and Beauty exhibition will help the visitors to explore more about William Morris, his life and his work as well. At the exhibition visitors can have a closer look on his concept of ‘art of people’ through several portraits, personal items and countless objects from Morris. Most of the exhibits are displayed the first time to the audience. This is the first major exhibition of William Morris and his fascinating work.

The exhibition also presents some of the original furnitures and textiles designed and owned by William Morris. At the exhibition visitors can discover more on the work of Morris contemporaries including Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Edward Burne-Jones. The Anarchy and Beauty exhibition will be shown at National Portrait Gallery in London. The exhibition will be held from 16th October 2014 until 11th January 2015.
